Kotaku serves up an interesting tidbit today - in June 2008, Nintendo patented a system whereby games would come with a built-in "kind code" that would allow players get past tough spots. The kind code would work as a sort of "digest," treating the helpless, clearly retarded gamer to a developer walk-through. Catching the cry in my throat, Nintendo assures me that I can play the game with the feature disabled. Golly. Game, or barely-interactive cut scene? Thanks for giving me the choice, Nintendo.
In the old days, we just found an FAQ. Now they're sparing us the trouble. This truly is the future.
