Midnight Snack: Twin Shot

Now where did I leave that ham sandwich...? Need a midnight gaming snack to help you waste time in the wee hours? You’ve come to the right place. I present Nitrome’s new Twin Shot. I found it through IndieGames.com, and it filled a tiny void in my life that I didn’t know existed.

“What void is that?” you may ask. The Adorable-Winged-Kittens-Armed-with-Bows-and-Arrows Void. Twin Shot's designers have clearly played their Bubble Bobble. But instead of dragons, you control a small winged kitten who travels from level to level blasting baddies with your bow and arrow.

Thumbs up to a number of little things the game does right: you can stand on your arrows to climb walls (like bubble-hopping in Bubble Bobble), the music provides a great 8-/16-bit vibe, the levels continually surprise with their inventive designs, and there’s local multiplayer (!!!).

Initially, I hadn’t thought to dedicate a post to this game, but something happened on Level 12 that needed to be shared. Let me explain something: there’s no falling to your death in this game. If you fall, you just fall down unharmed from the top of the screen. In Level 12, all the enemies hang out on incredibly unsafe spiky platforms. You’re safe on the sides, but there’s no conventional way to hit all the enemies. So I jumped, entered a perpetual kitty freefall, and fired arrows repeatedly until I’d popped the last of them. I was giggling uncontrollably the entire time. I can’t remember the last time a game made me laugh like that. Oh yes, I can.

EDIT: Level 25. So fun.
